Sleeping without your clothes on has some outstanding health benefits that a lot of people aren't aware of. This is perhaps because for most of our lives we've been told that wearing our pajamas to bed is the appropriate way to sleep.

When you have clothes on throughout your sleep, your body temperature increases and decreases the quantity of melatonin and growth hormone it creates. Both of which are significant for repair, stress-reduction, regulating your metabolism and of course anti-aging. Aside from that, you’ll also get deeper and lengthier sleep when your body is cool.

Moreover, wearing underwear or tight bottoms to bed, particularly if you're a woman, can have some horrible consequences.

"If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that's not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects," Dr. Alyssa Dweck, gynaecologist, and author of V for Vagina, told during an interview with Shape. "That's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast."

I believe most of you are already covering our nether regions all through the day, so sleeping commando is an impeccable way to allow your vagina to breathe. You should do this most especially if you're already predisposed to getting yeast infections and bothersome infections like vaginosis.

In case you’re someone who totally can’t go to bed without underwear, Dweck recommends choosing cotton "granny panties," looser fitting undies or even a pair of men's boxers. Whatever you do, it is advised that you avoid silk and lace underwear as these aren't breathable fabrics and will hamper airflow.

In addition, you must never ever go to bed in the same pair of panties you wore all throughout the day. Depending on the style and fabric of the underwear – mind you thongs are the worst – not only will bacteria thrive; you're also susceptible to a more austere infection if fecal matter paves its way to your vagina.

When it comes to men, you must also give the undies a break during the night. This is because some men are susceptible to getting fungal infections in the groin area, and this can be stopped by dumping the tighty whities. Try sleeping with just a pair of loose cotton shorts or pajama pants as an alternative.
